A new ligand, L, bearing two ethyl acetate pendant groups has been synthesized by reaction of the precursor ligand L A with ethylbromoacetate. The coordination capability towards transition [Mn 2+ , Ni 2+ ], post‐transitional [Zn 2+ and Cd 2+ ] and Pb 2+ ions has been investigated starting from the hydrated perchlorate salts of the metals. The new ligand L and the metal complexes obtained were characterized by elemental analysis, FAB MS, conductivity measurements, magnetic studies, IR, UV‐vis and 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopy. Furthermore, the crystal structures of the complexes [MnL](ClO 4 ) 2 and [NiL](ClO 4 ) 2 ·CH 3 CN were determined.
