A 1D Zn II (μ‐4,4′‐bipy) coordination polymer with trichloroacetate anions, [Zn(4,4′‐bipy)(H 2 O) 4 ] n (CCl 3 COO) 2n ·(4,4′‐bipy) 2n , has been synthesized, characterized and studied by thermal and X‐ray crystallography. The structural studies show the Zn atoms have a distorted octahedral environment. Self‐assembly of this compound in the solid state is likely caused by hydrogen boding, shorted Cl···Cl and π‐π stacking interactions.
