Potassium amide‐ammonia(1/2), KNH 2 ·2NH 3 ( 1 ) was obtained as a side product in the reaction of distilled potassium with dicesium‐dodecahydro‐ closo ‐dodecaborate Cs 2 B 12 H 12 in liquid ammonia at −38 °C. The compound crystallises in the orthorhombic space group C 222 1 with Z = 4, a = 6.8386(7) Å, b = 9.9525(10) Å, c = 6.5903(6) Å and V = 448.54(8) Å 3 as column shaped colorless crystals. The compound contains one‐dimensional infinite potassium‐amide‐ammonia‐strands parallel to the crystallographic c ‐axis which are interconnected by interstrand N–H···N‐hydrogen bonds.
