A cage rule for S‐N compounds has been elucidated, Σπ = 4n + 4 (n = 0, 1, 2, 3) or Σπ = 4 n* (n* = 1, 2, 3), and its validity tested using SN compounds with known structures. It has also been applied to the structures of some recently prepared Se and Te nitrogen compounds. Predictions have been made for the synthesized compounds as well as the postulated intermediates. The results prove, that the cage rule is a meaningful supplement to Hückel 's rule in chalcogen‐nitrogen chemistry.
