The title compounds were synthesized from La, LaX 3 (X = Cl, Br and I) and Ge under Ar atmosphere at temperatures 860‐1200 °C. Their structures are characterized by Ge‐centered La 6 octahedra or trigonal prisms. Ge atoms form planar zigzag [ttctct] ∞ (t = trans, c = cis) chains in La 3 Br 2 Ge 3 and La 3 Cl 2 Ge 3 , graphite‐like hexagon nets in La 2 I 2 Ge 2 , but otherwise are not bonded to each other in La 2 I 2 Ge, La 2 I 2 Ge 2 , La 3 I 3 Ge, La 6 I 5 Ge 3 and La 7+x I 12 Ge (x ≈ 0.7). Computational analysis of the electronic structures of these compounds was carried out.
