A new zinc phosphate cluster Ni(2, 2'‐bipy) 3 · [ZnCl(H 2 PO 4 ) 3 ] ( 1 ) was obtained by the hydrothermal reaction of ZnO, H 3 PO 4 , NiCl 2 ·6H 2 O, 2, 2'‐bipyridine(2, 2'‐bipy) and H 2 O in a molar ration of 1 : 1.9 : 0.5 : 1.5 : 126. The structure of 1 is made of [ZnCl(H 2 PO 4 ) 3 ] clusters that are separated by nickel complexes. The compound is novel in the sense that it is the first zinc phosphate cluster with metal complexes acting as structure‐directing agents. Crystal data: trigonal, space group = R 3¯c (no. 167), a = 13.2407(3), c = 74.034(3) Å, V = 11240.5(6) Å 3 , Z = 12.
