The preparation and thorough characterization of benzeneselenenyl chlorides, bromides and selenocyanates containing various mesityl substituted groups, i.e. 2, 4, 6‐(X 3 ) 3 C 6 H 2 (X = CH 3 , CF 3 , and (CH 3 ) 3 C), was achieved. Detailed multinuclear NMR studies revealed isotope effects at the selenium‐halogen bond. X‐ray crystallographic studies on a series of selenenyl species enabled comparisons on the influence of the attached substituents.
