Abstract A new molybdenum(III) diphosphate has been isolated. The single crystal X‐ray diffraction study of this phase has shown that it is isotypic with BaM 2 P 4 O 14 (M = Ti III or V III ). It crystallizes in the C2/c space group a = 10.8135(8), b = 10.6407(7) c = 9.8210(6) Å, β = 103.629(7)°. A new description of the structure is given, based on the existence of original units MoP 4 O 16 ; the latters are formed of two bidentate P 2 O 7 groups connected to the same MoC 6 octahedron. The [Mo 2 P 4 O 14 ]∞ framework does not form tunnels as previously claimed, but large cages where barium cations are located.
