The preparation and spectroscopic characterization of S 7 X + MF − 6 (X = CN, OCN, SCN, SeCN; M = As, Sb) is reported. The new compounds are formed in analogy to the preparation of halidocycloheptrasulfur(+1) cations from S 2+ 8 (MF − 6 ) 2 and alkali pseudohalides in So 2 as solvent. Their thermal stabilities decrease with the increasing Pearson hardness of the pseudohalide ligands.
