A Mössbauer resonance investigation has been carried out on the oxyfluoride Sn 2 OF 2 over the temperature range 4.2 ≤ T ≤ 383 K. The results have been compared to those of SnO and α‐SnF 2 on hand of structure and bond covalency. The effective vibrating mass M eff of tin(II) has been deduced from the temperature dependence of the isomer shift. The deduced recoilless fraction of Sn 2 OF 2 is relatively high in comparison with that of the fluoride. Such a feature results likely from the higher covalency and the three dimensional character of the lattice.
