Iron(III) complexes with a non‐cyclic tetradentate N 2 O 2 ‐ligand of the type of “acacen” and “benacen” forming their equatorial plane undergo a photoreduction of Fe III to Fe II when being irradiated in methanol by ultraviolet light. Quantum yields of the photoreduction of Fe III and the oxidation of an axial ligand depend on the wavelength of excitation light and on the peripheral groups of the equatorial ligands, but they correlate neither with Taft nor Hammett parameters of the peripheral groups.
