The vapour phase above mixtures of CuCl 2 KClLaCl 3 has been studied. The vapour species CuCl 2 , Cu 3 Cl 3 , Cl 2 have been identified and there is an indication of the presence of the species Cu 2 Cl 4 , KCuCl 3 as well as a CuLaCl complex. A maximum in the chlorine pressure is found for the molar ratio Cu/K/La ≈ 50/35/15. The variation of the chlorine pressure is explained from a Lewis acid‐base theory.
