The initial stage of the reaction of hydrazines and hydrazones complex formation with tungsten oxotetrafluoride has been investigated by n.m.r. Neutral complexes of the [WOF 4 L] type (L CH 3 NHNHCH 3 , (CH 3 ) 2 NNHCH 3 , C 2 H 5 (CH 3 )NN(CH 3 )C 2 H 5 , C 2 H 5 (CH 3 )NNHCH 3 , PhCH 3 NN(CH 3 ) 2 , CH 3 RNNC(CH 3 ) 2 R CH 3 , C 2 H 5 , Ph) have been investigated. The complexes are pentagonal bipyramids with both nitrogen atoms of η 2 ‐coordination with the organic ligands in the equatorial plane. Isomerism of neutral complexes has been found which is due to different orientations of substituents of coordinated hydrazine (hydrazone). An influence of the orientation of substituents to the relative stability of the isomers has been found.
