A correlation is found between the ability for double salt formation in M n L 2 M′ n L 2 H 2 O systems (L n− is oxoanion) and the Lewis base strength of the oxoanion. It is established that double salts are formed when the Lewis base strength of the oxoligand is higher than that of water. The ability for double salt formation also correlates with the K a values for the corresponding oxoacids. The influence of the charge of the oxoanion as well as the charge and ionic radius of the central atom on the strength of MO L (metal‐oxoligand) bond is considered.
