α‐Fe 2 O 3 single crystals of relatively high purity and stoichiometry have been studied using photoelectrochemical techniques. Two indirect electronic transitions are observed at 2.04 and 2.32 eV and are ascribed to iron‐iron charge transfers. From the present work and literature data it is shown that the difference between the flat band potential and the photocurrent onset potential increases strongly with the donor concentration.
