On the Preparation of Mercuric Peroxides and Refinement of the α‐HgO 2 Structure

A short description of novel preparations of mercury(II) peroxides is given. By means of X‐ray powder analysis of α‐HgO 2 an attempt was made to further refine the crystal structure using selected computer programs. The refinement included variation of temperature factors for both Hg and O. Even though the R‐factor can be reduced down to 0.029, a set of coordinates was finally chosen corresponding to the accepted OO and HgO distances in such a class of compounds.
