The compounds SnCl 2 Br 2 (MeCN) 2 , “Sn 3 Cl 8 Br 4 (THF) 6 ”, and “Sn 3 Cl 10 Br 2 (OEt 2 ) 6 ” were obtained by reaction between SnCl 2 and Br 2 in acetonitrile (MeCN), tetrahydrofuran (THF) and diethyl ether (OEt 2 ). The two last are solid solutions of SnCl 4 L 2 and SnCl 2 Br 2 L 2 (L = THF, OEt 2 ) in the proportions 1:2 and 2:1, respectively. The compounds are characterized by IR, Raman, and Mössbauer spectroscopy, a C 1 symmetry being found for SnCl 2 Br 2 (MeCN) 2 together with a C 2v symmetry, with the ligands in trans positions, for SnCl 2 Br 2 L 2 (L = THF, OEt 2 ). The Mössbauer spectrum of SnBr 4 (THF) 2 was also obtained, which has not previously been reported. The reaction between SnCl 2 and I 2 has also been studied in the same solvents, and the formation of SnCl 4 L 2 (L = MeCN, THF, OEt 2 ), SnI 4 , and a small amount of SnI 3 Cl was observed, which have been identified by Raman spectroscopy.
