Hydrogen reduction of α‐and β‐Te 2 MoO 7 was studied by means of ESR spectroscopy at various temperatures. At 320°C reduction did not proceed beyond formation of isolated Mo(V) centres even after prolonged treatments. At 350°C various paramagnetic Mo(V) sites with tetragonally distorted octahedral oxygen coordination were observed. The ESR spectra of samples reduced at 400°C are explained by the formation of TeMo 5 O 16 .
