Bromine addition to the double bond in 1‐phenyl‐2‐phospholene 1‐oxide results in two isomeric 2,3‐dibromo‐1‐phenylphospholane 1‐oxides and bromination of 1‐phenyl‐3‐phospholene 1‐oxide yields 3,4‐dibromo‐1‐phenylphospholane 1‐oxide. The above three vicinal dibromo‐1‐phenylphospholane 1‐oxides were isolated as isomerically pure species and were characterized by 1 H (60 and 270 MHz), 31 P and 13 C nmr, IR, Laser Raman and mass spectrometry.
