MoO 4 2− is reduced by diethyldithiocarbamate (Et 2 dtc − ) on prolonged digestion in aqueous medium whereby the complex [Mo 2 V O 2 S 2 (Et 2 dtc) 2 ] is formed. The central moiety Mo 2 O 2 S 2 2+ has a high formation tendency. When [Mo 2 V (S 2 ) 6 ] 2− is refluxed with Et 2 dtc − in ethanol, [Mo 2 V S 4 −(Et 2 dtc) 2 ] is formed, the X‐ray crystal structure of which has been determined (space group P2 1 2 1 2 1 , a = 10.550(2) Å, b = 13.820(5) Å, c = 14.723(12) Å, d c = 1.90 g · cm 3− , Z = 4). The MoMo distance of the diamagnetic compound is 2.817(2) Å and the average Mo=S t distance 2.099(4) Å.
