A new series of pentacoordinated complexes of general formula [Fe(Rdtc) 2 X], X being a halogen and Rdtc being piperidine dithiocarbamate (Pipdtc), thiomorpholine dithiocarbamate (Timdtc), morpholine dithiocarbamate (Morphdtc), has been prepared and characterized by magnetic and spectroscopic techniques. The magnetic moments of these compounds lie close to that expected for complexes with the metal ion in dsp 3 hybridization, i. e. three unpaired electrons and no orbital contribution. The complexes are monomeric in nitrobenzene. The ironhalide and iron‐sulphur stretching modes have also been assigned.
