The thermal decompositions of Nb 3 O 7 Cl in atmosphere of argon and oxygen were carried out and the decomposition formulae were determined as follows:The decomposition products in each atmospheres were found to be the T‐form Nb 2 O 5 and H‐form Nb 2 O 5 . It was, however, observed that if an amount of special polymorphic form of Nb 2 O 5 has been added to the starting material, Nb 3 O 7 Cl, the decomposition product came to contain a larger proportion of the seeded form. NbO 2 F was decomposed in the oxygen atmosphere. The decomposition product appeared as the P‐form Nb 2 O 5 and transformed into the N‐form Nb 2 O 5 . In the case of the thermal decomposition of NbO 2 F, no appreciable seeding effect was observed.
