Equilibria involved in the interaction of thorium (IV) ion and malonic succinic, phthalic, maleic and glutaric acid in aqueous solutions have been investigated by means of potentiometric measurements of hydrogen ion concentration at 20°C and in an ionic medium 1 M (H, Na)ClO 4 . In the ligand range examined, the formation of chelate complexes with one and two ligands for the thorium(IV)‐ malonate, ‐phthalate and ‐maleaste systems and with one ligand only for the thorium(IV)‐succinate system has been ascertained. For Thorium(IV)‐glutarate no formation of a chelate, but only of acido complexes occurs, in which the ligand behaves principally as monodentate donor. The formation constants have been determined, and the stability of the complexes is discussed.
