Chlorine and bromine react with an ethanolic suspension of several nonelectrolytic complexes of manganese(II) having the general formula MnL 2 X 2 where L = pyridine, γ‐picoline, 4‐cyano pyridine, 3:5‐lutidine or iso‐quinoline and X = Cl or Br to form a number of 1:1 electrolytic complexes of the types [LH][HMnLX 4 ], [LH][HMnLX 2 Y 2 ] and [LH][HMnLY 4 ] where X = Cl and Y = Br. All these complexes have been characterised on the basis of their analytical, conductance, magnetic susceptibility and infra‐red spectral data. The green compound which was prepared by the reaction of dry HCl with MnPy 2 Cl 2 and previously formulated as [H] 2 [MnPy 2 Cl 4 ] has been restudied and is now rewritten as [PyH][HMnPyCl 4 ].
