Hexa‐coordinated complexes of cobalt(II) bis(methylacetoacetate) with pyridine, 3‐methylpyridine, 4‐methylpyridine, 1,10‐phenanthroline and 2,2′‐dipyridyl have been isolated in pure crystalline forms. These are dull red to orange‐yellow in colour and are non‐electrolytes. The complexes are all paramagnetic (μ B = 4.8–5.0 B.M.). Magnetic moment and electronic absorption spectra identify the complexes as octahedral ones. A cis configuration is assigned to the pyridine and substituted pyridine adducts on the basis of chemical evidence.
