The reactions between pyrophyllite, (OH) 2 Al 2 Si 4 O 10 , and NiO as well as CoO were carried out in the solid state at 750–950°C. The nature of the reaction products was investigated spectrophotometrically and by X‐ray diffraction powder method. Generally, the formation of the corresponding metal aluminium spinel M II Al 2 O 4 (M II = Ni, Co) together with other phases were observed. The results are discussed and compared with previous work( 1−4 ).
