The uptake of uranium(VI) ion on alkaline earth sulphates was studied in hydrochloric acid media of normality ranging from 0.5 to 5.0. Calcium sulphate could not fix uranium through the whole investigated acid range. No uranium was taken up on strontium or barium sulphate from hydrochloric acid solutions of normalities higher than 3. Aging of precipitates and heating of solutions reduced the uptake. The mechanism of uptake of uranyl ion on alkaline earth sulphates was discussed. The isotherms obtained on using barium sulphate were found to obey the F REUNDLICH equation.
