Vanadium(IV) and vanadium(V) react in acid media forming green intermediates whose compositions depend upon the concentrations of the reactants, pH of the media, and time of reaction. Two solid intermediates separated from mixtures of vanadyl sulfate and sodium metavanadate solutions more than a year ago appear stable at room temperature even to this date.
