By the thermal decomposition of mixed nickel‐zinc oxalates and ‐hydroxides in vacuum and in the hydrogen stream at lowest possible temperature products containing metallic nickel with paramagnetic properties were obtained, which presented high catalytic activity in the hydrogenation of benzene. The lack of ferromagnetic properties of these products indicates, that they contain nickel crystallites of extremely small dimensions, which have been estimated to not exceed 20 Å.
