NNb 2 O 5 is monoclinic, with a = 28.51, b = 3.830, c = 17.48 Å, β = 120.80°, space group C2/m. The structure, refined by the least squares method, contains blocks of corner sharing metal‐oxygen octahedra, 4 · 4 and infinite in extension along b. These blocks are joined together at the same level as well as at different level by having octahedral edges in common. NNb 2 O 5 is a shear structure which can be represented by the structural formula:
