Perchlorates of La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, and Y have been prepared and their conductance, cryoscopic and infrared studies indicate the non‐coordinating tendency of the perchlorate ion. The observed splitting of the v 3 band in the IR spectra is due to a non‐uniform field arising from the water molecules around the cation.
