The uranyl hydrolytic precipitates with successively changed Na/U ratios were measured in the region 400–3600 cm −1 . The results indicate the uranyl to be influenced by sodium content; its antisymmetric frequency shifts linearly against Na/U. Two forms of hydroxyl groups are present — the first is influenced by sodium substitution, the second is not. Sodium uranates contain no water of crystallization but certain amounts of non‐stoichiometric water molecules, which can be removed rather difficultly even at elevated temperatures, are present.
