The dipole moments of the addition compounds of antimony pentachloride with organic ligands containing different functional groups have been measured in benzene solution at 35°C. The moments of the 1:1 complexes depend directly on the polarity of the ligand containing oxygen as the donor atom. Complexes having SbCl 5 :ligand ratio of 1:2 are found to be dissociated in solution.
