Reactions between silver borate and benzoyl chloride were carried out both directly and in acetone medium under reflux at 60°C and a product having the composition (C 6 H 5 CO)BO 2 has been isolated in the form of a pale yellow crystalline substance which sublimes on heating and melts at 120°. The product is hydrolysed in water giving benzoic and boric acids. With alcohols it gives alkyl benzoate and alkyl borate. The infra‐red spectrum shows the presence of the BO   2 −ions. The UV spectrum of benzoyl borate in chloroform solution showes only one maxium peak of absorption at 280 mμ indicating the presence of CO group.
