Abstract A simple method is developed for separating carrier free S‐35 from neutron‐irradiated KCl in high chemical, radiochemical and medical purity. The product was proved to be free from any contaminating P‐32 activity, in which case, the behaviour of carrier free S‐35 and P‐32 on the strongly basic anion exchanger, Dowex‐1, has been studied and the optimum conditions of their separation were used. The method can be successfully applied on a production scale for anly level of S‐35 activity with a minimum consumption of chemicals and practically no consumption of resin. An illustrative flow sheet is given.
