Evidence is presented showing that the assumption that LUYUELL and KNOWLES rhenide is identical with the product obtained by reducing aqueous perrhenate with an alkali metal, recently shown to be a hydride, is incorrect. Absorption spectra of acid rhenide solutions show that. a complex of Re‐ cannot be present, and so it is concluded that rhenide is a hydride complex of rhenium different, from that obtained by reduction with alkali metals.
