Alloxan forms a soluble, yellow complex with trivalent cerium. The composition of the complex has been determined by means of JOBS continuous variation method by applying it to colorimetric and conductometric measurements. The results indicate the formation of only a 1:2 complex between Ce 2+ ‐ions arid alloxan. The complex gives maximum colour intensity between pE1 3.2 and 3.4. The colour reaction due to complex formation is instantaneous and may be used for the detection of Ce3+‐ions in solution.
