Abstract Conductometric, electrometric and cryoscopic measurements of the systems: HgI 2 KCNH 2 O and Hg(CN) 2 KIH 2 O indicate the existence of the following complexes in solution: KHg(CN) 2 I, K 2 Hg(CN) 2 I 2 and K 2 Hg(CN) 4 . Out of these, the first and the last complex have actually been isolated. The fact that from the systems: HgI 2 2 KCN and Hg(CN) 2 2 KI, the complex KHg(CN) 2 I gets crystallized, suggests that the complex K 2 Hg(CN) 2 I 2 indicated by physicochemical measurements is unstable and gets converted into the more stable complex KHg(CN) 2 I during the process of crystallization. Some indication for the existence of the complex KHgI 2 CN has also been obtained. A modified method for the estimation of iodide in the presence of cyanide has been worked out.
