Potassium manganimalonate has been prepared for the first time in the pure state. It has been assigned the formulae K 3 [Mn(CH 2 (COO) 2 ) 3 ] · 3 H 2 O. The compound when dissolved in water hydrolyses producing hydrated maganese dioxide, while it gives a clear deep red solution when added to an aqueous solution containing potassium malonate and malonic acid. This solution slowly decomposes at room temperature and is unaffected by light. It thus significantly differs from the corresponding decomposition of potassium manganioxalate which is distinctly photo‐chemical.
