Double K‐photoionization of S and Ar

Experimental evidence of double photoionizations at core levels of S ( Z = 16) and Ar ( Z = 18) is presented. Measurements of Kα line intensities were carried out in the region of the double‐photoionization K‐edge energy using monochromatic synchrotron radiation. From these measurements, double K‐ionization energies were obtained and double‐photoionization K‐edge jumps were calculated for these elements. A discussion on the effects of double K vacancies on XRF analysis is presented, and some approaches to the treatment of multiple vacancies in XRF are pointed out.
