XANES of the nickel systems NiO, LaNiO 3 , Ni(NO 3 ) 2 · 6H 2 O, NiSO 4 · 6H 2 0, NICO 3 and Ni 3 (PO 4 ) 2 · x H 2 O were studied using a previously published equation and the nearest neighbour distances were determined and compared with the crystallographic values. The nearest neighbour distance of the system LaNiO 3 , whose crystallographic value is not available was also determined.
