This paper describes a recently developed multichannel chart recorder and shows how it can be applied to the display of data from the scanning electron microscope energy‐dispersive analysis system. Advantages and limitations are outlined. The advantage of the recorder is that it provides hard‐copy data with extremely fast analysis times. A limitation is that the system is only semi‐quantitative. Three applications in which the use of the recorder has proved advantageous are described: the fields of metallurgy, mineralogy and forensic science.
