Recently with the widespread emergence of personal navigation devices and growth of mobile networks, large quantities of time‐stamped, location data have become available. To analyze real‐time spatial movement data, we have developed a Web 2.0 platform called VisTracks ® . The platform includes spatial servers for generating maps, performing navigation, and tracking moving assets and a flexible Silverlight visual analytics web client. Using VisTracks, it is possible to develop rich visual analytics web applications for understanding location, movement, tracking, and analytics through time. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
