Location of observing sites mentioned in the text. The extent of London's built‐up area is also shown. Base map obtained from OpenStreetMap ( www.openstreetmap.org ) and Open Street Map Foundation, licensed as CC BY‐SA. (© OpenStreetMap contributors.)Daily maximum temperatures observed at London's Heathrow airport are compared with those of other official observing sites around the west and southwest of London to explore how representative Heathrow's temperatures are of the local environment. The frequency with which Heathrow is the warmest place in the UK is found to peak sharply between June and September. However, daily maximum temperatures at all of the London sites are usually similar, particularly at other times of the year.
