In the second issue of Weather this month, we are promoting the awareness of weather, climate, oceanography and hydrology among young people. During 2015, the RMetS and the Weather Board realised that it would be a good idea to hold a competition to find a young guest editor and invite contributions from writers at school, college or at undergraduate level. We received a broad selection of well‐written articles from students aged between 7 and 21. These articles cover subjects as diverse as the effects of dramatic or extreme weather, meteorology and aircraft, changing climate, and women in meteorology. Although most of the articles were written by British authors, there is global coverage and the content is similarly diverse. Although written by younger people, many of whom will become the earth and environmental scientists of the future, we trust that you will enjoy this additional issue of Weather . The interest and capability of all of this issue's authors are evident.
