The author describes reliable calibration procedures that use stable reference materials and allow for exchange of data among many types of commercial spectrophotometers. The calibration of reference standards is either based on absolute date (mercury lines) or is traceable to values obtained on the NITS high‐accuracy spectrophotometer.
