Infrared analysis can be used to study the conversion of organotin mercaptide stabilizers in PVC from dialkyltin dimercaptide to dialkyltin monochloride monomercaptide to dialkyltin dichloride. This technique is used to study the effects of the stabilizer level and thermal heat history on the light stability of PVC.
