A broad range of substrates consisting of composites with PVC surfaces has demonstrated utility in flooring, wall covering, furniture and automotive. The range of properties available from photocurable topcoats is described. Such topcoats present opportunities for new innovative protective and decorative effects. The impact of coating properties, application techniques and curing parameters and their interactions with substrates are discussed. Detailed understanding of costperformance benefits are required for a successful development program. An ever increasing number of commercial operations are demonstrating the utility of 100 percent solids, low energy consuming photocurable topcoats.
