Antibiotics containing phenolic ‐OH groups, such as amoxicillin and cefadroxil, have been found to be strong antioxidants in common plastics to a much greater extent than would be guessed from their structures. Vancomycin, which contains several such groups, is also a powerful antioxidant. It is possible that this characteristic plays a part in inhibiting bacterial expression of counteragents such as β‐lactamases.
