Just before Helen B. Garrett, Ed.D., arrived at the University of Washington in 2016, the university found itself at a crossroads in defining the role of registrar going forward. The school was considering either downgrading the position to director status or amping up the role to encompass a broader focus on the full student experience. In hiring Garrett as the university's first Chief Officer of Enrollment Information Services as well as its University Registrar, university leadership chose to aim high.
